1. No More Goddesses by Kim Baccellia
No More Goddesses is about a teenage girl named Jordan who finds an ancient bracelet worn by her favorite actress in a movie in her grandma's attic and puts it on, hoping it will bring her love. Instead, the bracelet unleashes Hathor, the Egyptian goddess of love, who decides it's fun to mess with the social scene of Jordan's high school. I liked No More Goddesses because I love reading about my peers, and ancient Egypt was one of the times us gods domesticated humans. $14. Buy it here.
2. The Quelling, by Barbara Barrow
The Quelling is what Mom calls "New Adult fiction", because the two main characters are sisters named Addie and Dorian who are just barely become adults. The girls are clever, beautiful, and hopelessly violent, and I swear they're cats at heart. They've spent most of their lives in a locked psych ward, diagnosed with a rare psychiatric disorder. Now that Addie and Dorian are adults, Addie decides she wants to start a new family, ostensibly to replace the one she lost. $18. Buy it here.
3. Forgetting English by Midge Raymond
Forgetting English is a collection of prize-winning short stories. In this collection, Midge Raymond stretches the boundaries of place. I liked this book because short story collections are purr-fect for reading in between naps or getting head scratches from adoring fans. $17.95. Buy it here.
