This is the first full-length biography of Francis Scott Key, lawyer, landed proprietor, and poet. Mr. Weybright writes that Francis Scott Key "was active in many great causes and events of his time but he has suffered the obscurity common to prominent laymen. He is remembered almost entirely because, detained by the British fleet bombarding Fort McHenry, in 1814, he wrote 'The Star Spangled Banner."
