This book is 1/3 poetry, and 2/3 short fiction, in what is called tête-bêche or more informally dos-à-dos binding meaning "back to back." The 22 stories include one about a puppet who dances at Soul Train, a woman who carries a corpse across a river, a woman who copies everything her neighbor does, including decorating her mailbox. The poems include one about rocks worn to heart shapes by the rivers, a father and daughter's relationship; to fire, poems about dogs, roses, the moon, mathematics, and many other things. Illustrated by the author in bl/wh line drawings and photographs and collages.
